[Devlog] The Crystal Wardens – Catching Up Since September

Hey,

It’s been a while, so figured I’d drop a quick update on what’s been going on with the game.

A bunch of stuff changed since then, both in the background and the actual gameplay:

  • Biomes can now be randomly generated with smooth gradients – super flexible, mostly for my own dev use but opens up some cool possibilities later.
  • Player now makes footstep sounds depending on the ground they’re walking on. Small touch, feels nicer.
  • Cleaned up a ton of backend code.

Multiplayer stuff:

  • UI got a major simplification – no search, no passwords, just click and go.
  • Usernames now show up properly.
  • Fixed a bunch of bugs with the multiplayer interface and flow.

Inventory/Shop (early WIP):

  • Added a basic inventory/shop UI – shows items, currency, etc.
  • Not released yet, still figuring things out.
  • You’ll be able to earn cosmetics through gameplay too, not just IAP. Grinding should be possible if that’s your thing.
  • Items now get cached for 2 days if you’re offline, so the inventory doesn’t break.

Respawn fix:

  • Player respawn is more stable now and has a proper timer.

UI/audio polish:

  • Pickup animations for crystals added.
  • Music/SFX settings now use sliders instead of mute buttons.
  • Some updated button sounds.
  • Coin visuals changed to crystals – makes more sense thematically.

Other stuff:

  • Main menu music added.
  • Co-op end screen now shows more detailed stats (like what enemies you actually killed).
  • Early exp/level system – placeholder for now, not final.
  • Coop wave gen updated.
  • Coop got a big upgrade system now – during breaks you can upgrade troops, spells, unlock stuff, boost crystal production, etc. Still working out balance, but the core is there.
  • Luka’s music plays during breaks now – gives it a nice vibe.
  • Added a few icons for the upgrades.

Also… testing a few weird ideas under the hood. Might turn into something cool later.

That’s it for now. Still in dev-mode but glad stuff is slowly taking shape.

Thanks for sticking around. More soon.
